ABOUT

Kindergarten Little Explorer (Mali istraživač), opened in 2013 in a furnished space for early and pre-school children. The kindergarten has well-equipped areas for preschool groups and a children’s playground with fantastic equipment for active outdoor activities. The kindergarten premises are divided into two houses called TINTILINIĆ HOUSE and BALTAZAR HOUSE. The total area of both premises is 1400 m2. There are 250 children staying in our premises through 11 educational groups of children from one year to seven years of age.

Developmental Vision

It aims to encourage the development of a free, confident, resourceful and responsible child who thinks creatively and critically. The early and preschool age of the child is not merely a preparational phase of life into adulthood, but rather a whole separate life, with its values and culture. Respecting this, we have shaped the environment in which childhood lives to its fullest.

Our nursery has an interactive environment that fully benefits children. Each space is designed to develop different competencies of the child. With its design, the nursery looks like a laboratory where every child has a good foundation for them childhood in an acceptable way. Guided by their innate curiosity, the child is constantly exploring and needs to understand the world around them (and themselves in that world). That is why our children have the opportunity to choose the space and with whom and with what they will play entering in different relationships with children older and younger. In accordance with the basic condition that a child should be exposed to a wealth of incentives, we decided that the specialty of our approach to upbringing – educational work with children will offer:

  • A 10-hour, enriched English program that will expose all kindergarten children in almost all situations during kindergarten and individual communication, working with smaller groups or with a large number of children.
  • English language early learning program
  • Sports program
  • German language early learning program
  • Abacus – mastering computing skills using Japanese abacus (mental math)

The contemporary perception of a child is based on the humanistic-development paradigm that implies encouraging the idea of observing a child as a whole being.

Such an approach implies observing a child as a unique personality, which involves more than a mere sum of various social and emotional, intellectual and physical characteristics. A child is considered to be strong, competent and full of potential since the day it is born and it is up to us to create the conditions that will enable a child to reach its maximum.

In modern early and pre-school education, a child is considered as an active and equal participant in the process of education. Therefore, the quality of education is closely related to the cooperative relationships of the child with its own environment.

This environment, made up of various social, temporal and spatial dimensions, becomes a childs learning environment that largely effects on how and in what way a child learns. The dynamic interaction and interdependence of these three dimensions make up a unique context of an educational institution that determines the depth and quality of the learning process.

As a result of our years of experience, we are convinced that a strong partnership between educators, families and other community members is extremely important for childrens development and learning.

Taking into account the different structures, origin, characteristics and lifestyle of each family, we want to emphasize that educational institutions and families are not two separate worlds. Family represents the first childs educational and social environment for learning.

Ivana Brlić Mažuranić kindergarten has been active since 1976. It is located in a green and peaceful environment of single-family homes. It consists of three facilities with twenty-one educational groups. In addition to the regular ten-hour program and the Pre-school program, several special programs are being implemented, including the program Children in Nature.

This five-day program is intended for children from all kindergartens in city of Zagreb, in the year before joining school. At a time when nature is becoming less accessible to children, and there is a growing fear of “danger” from nature, this program brings back nature to children’s lives and returns children to nature.

City of Youth is healthy, stimulating and safe environment for children’s organized stay in nature. It is close to the city, which gives the optimum time separation of children from the family. It is safe place of a well know group of children and educators.

The children are staying in stand-alone facilities, organised like family homes and specifically built for the organised stay of children. The “magic school” has modern research laboratories at its disposal. Developed space of Forest Park is a perfect environment for walking, playing and exploring activities.

The concept of the program, which includes children’s direct contact with nature and active learning in collaboration with other children and adults, enables children to gain valuable experience and develop positive attitudes focused on ethical and environmental behavior and community living.Benefits for children are extremely high.

The program allows children to experience the beauty of nature, explore its laws and discover how they can protect it. While being separated from their families for several days, children are learning how to become independent in taking care of themselves which requires socially acceptable and responsible behavior and develops social skills.

Being active in nature benefits children’s health, improves children’s motor-skills, develops self-protective mechanisms and problem-solving skills.

Deep experiences of children in nature stimulate various forms of their creative expression.

Numerous games, social and entertaining activities and cultural and artistic contents support a cheerful mood and optimism, positive affirmation of children, openness to others and different, strengthen fellowship and friendship.

The quality of Early Childhood Education and Care in Petar Pan Kindergarten is based on contemporary pedagogical theories. It accepts curricular approach which emphasize pedagogical values, principles and goals, not contents in education.

Vision of our organisation is development of internalisation and quality programs.

Mission of our kindergarten is development of quality Early Childhood Education and Care, development of sustainable internalisation plan together with integration of good European practice. It is important to recognize our kindergarten as inclusive organisation which implement inovative, modern teaching and learning methods.

Petar Pan Kindergarten has outstanding successful participation in Erasmus+ program.  Since 2014 in our kindergarten we had implemented six Erasmus+ international projects (three within Key Action -Learning Mobility for Individuals and three Strategic Partnership projects). In 2015 one of the projects is labeled as the Best Practice by National Agency for Mobility and EU programs. Considering great results within Erasmus+ projects four members of the staff had received the position of Erasmus+ ambassadors for the Early Years and Pre-School level of education.

Best quality educational programs in our kindergarten, among others, include English for Early Years and Pre-School Learners, ICT program and Special program for potentially gifted children. English for Early Years and Pre-School Learners is implemented according to the method of teaching meaningful and connected actions and activities. Children explore together, they learn in practical situations, identify and solve problems and make conclusions. In one of the classes teaching is additionally enhanced by CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning) method.

Petar Pan Kindergarten was one of the first kindergartens to begin with ICT program for pre-school children and this is something that make our staff very proud. The main goal iz development of digital literacy as precondition for development of information literacy.

Results accomplished go very much beyond the age of children and their work is transparent to the parents and local community.

Program for potentially gifted children is specially adapted and enriched with topics which develop specific areas of giftedness with respect for individual developmental differences and needs.

Kindergarten Različak is located in the center of the City of Zagreb and operates in six locations in 23 educational groups. We mark the year 1869 as the beginning of our work, because at that time the first nursery was opened in the Kaptol facility, which  makes us  a kindergarten with the longest history in the City of Zagreb.

Today, the kindergarten has about 450 children between ages 1 to 6.

About 85 staff members (headmaster, preschool teachers, educator, psychologist, educational rehabilitator, administrative and technical staff) take care of the children in the kindergarten every day.

At Različak kindergarten we carry out a primary program lasting up to 10 hours a day, based on the humanistic-developmental concept of pre-school education with emphasis on creating developmentally appropriate and stimulating conditions (social, material, spatial environment) for the overall development of the child.

Within the whole day program the following are also implemented:

  • special early English and German language learning programs for children from three years of age to school, in which children learn spontaneously, through activities, play and practical life situations
  • special sports program for children from three years up to school focuses on the overall development of the child, with particular emphasis on exercising various physical and sports activities, adopting healthy lifestyles and proper nutrition, and includes exercising three times a week with a kinesiology professor in the gym.
  • special program of sensory integration for children from one to three years old that systematically and purposefully provides conditions for timely and proper development and organization of all child’s senses
  • special program for children with disabilities is intended for children of chronological age from 3 years to school, and includes children with multiple developmental disabilities who take several years to prepare for regular programs.
